Dubai police fete honest Filipina barista who returned P9 million
MANILA, Philippines — The Dubai police recently recognized a Filipina who works at a coffee shop in Dubai mall for returning a bag containing almost P9 million.
Filipina barista Mae Ann Olmidillo recently turned over a bag containing cash worth DH 195,000 or P2.75 million and two checks worth DH 500,000 and DH 6,250 or around P7 million to authorities. The bag also contained a check book and several other documents.
For her honesty, Dubai police officials led by Col. Rashid Mohammed Saleh Al Shehhi visited the coffee shop where Olmidillo works and surprised her with a gift and a certificate of recognition.
"Dubai police has a habit of springing surprises on community members for their honesty, good conduct, or even for following traffic rules," the Dubai Police said.
The Dubai Police Headquarters also posted the video of this surprise visit and recognition on their Instagram account.
For her part, Olmidillo said she didn’t have second thoughts about turning the bag and the money over to the authorities.
"When I found the money, hindi po ako nagdalawang isip na ibalik ‘yung pera sa nagmamay-ari. Hindi po akin ‘yun at alam kong may return si God para sa akin,” she said on the Instagram post of Dubai Police HQ.
(When I found the money, I had no second thoughts about returning it to the owner. It wasn't mine and I know that God will bless me for doing that)
