Duterte meets with Singapore president today
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte will meet with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob at Malacañang today to discuss ways to strengthen ties between their countries.
The two Southeast Asian leaders are expected to talk about areas of mutual interest, including political, economic, cultural and people-to-people engagement, according to a bulletin issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Duterte and Halimah will witness the signing of bilateral agreements and deliver a joint statement on the outcome of their meeting.
Halimah arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 yesterday, marking the start of her five-day state visit.
Before proceeding to Malacañang, Halimah will lead a wreath-laying ceremony in Rizal Park, Manila.
Her events in the Philippines include the opening of the Singaporium, a meeting with Philippines-Singapore Business Council, a tour of the Philippine Eagle Foundation center in Davao City and a dialogue with the Mindanao youth.
Halimah is Singapore’s first female president and first Malay head of state in 47 years. Her visit is the peak of this year’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore.
