Unite vs poverty, crime, injustice – Leni Robredo

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo yesterday called on Filipinos to unite versus poverty, crime and injustice as they welcome 2019.

“Let us join hands as we face bigger challenges in our efforts to improve the life of every Filipino family. Let’s bring hope to the community where we belong,” Robredo said in her New Year’s message.

She said the start of the year is an opportunity for a new beginning.

“Whatever happened in the past, whatever path we choose to take, we still have the opportunity to achieve our dreams,” Robredo said.

The Vice President also urged Filipinos to use as inspiration the stories of Filipinos who have exemplified strength in different ways in 2018.

“I wish that the year 2019 will bring us a better future,” she said. 

Stop hatred – Gloria Arroyo

For her part, Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo urged Filipinos to stop polarization. 

“Let’s greet the New Year with gratitude to God for all His blessings and hope for a peaceful and prosperous Philippines. Let’s not build fences but spread kindness and compassion. Let us not sow division but unity, not hate but forgiveness,” she said. ?

“May this New Year bring us endless opportunities to fulfill our dreams and be a true blessing to others,” the former president and incumbent congresswoman of Pampanga’s second district said. – With Delon Porcalla
