MANILA, Philippines — Classes for Saturday, August 11, have been suspended in some areas as rains continue to pound parts of Luzon brought about by southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Karding.

According to the state weather bureau, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains will affect Metro Manila, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Northern Quezon, Bataan (Bagac, Limay and Morong) and Cavite (Amadeo, Maragondon and Indang) that may persist within two-three hours.

As of 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Karding was estimated at 1,030 km west of extreme northern Luzon, or outside of Philippine Area of Responsibility, with maximum winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 75 km/h.

The following are the areas that have already declared class suspensions:

  • City of Manila - all levels (public and private)
  • Malabon - all levels (public and private)
  • Valenzuela City - all levels (public and private)
  • Hermosa, Bataan - all levels (public and private)
  • Dinalupihan, Bataan - all levels (public and private)
  • Mariveles, Bataan - all levels (public and private)
  • Caloocan City - all levels (public and private)
  • Cainta, Rizal - college level 
  • Antipolo City - all levels (public and private)
  • Marikina City- all levels (public and private)

Schools

  • Navotas Polytechnic College - 11:30 a.m. onwards
  • University of the Philippines (Diliman)
  • Miriam College
