MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipino household workers in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia reportedly took their lives last week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has expressed condolences to the families of the two Filipino workers assured to provide them assistance.

“We are deeply saddened by the news that two of our kababayan reportedly decided to take their own lives while working abroad and away from their families,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement released Monday.

The Philippine Embassies in Beirut and Riyadh are working with local authorities in investigating the incidents and to find out whether there was no foul play in deaths of the two Filipino domestic workers.

The first incident involving a household service worker from Cagayan occurred on June 11, according to the Philippine Embassy in Beirut.

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh reported the second incident involving a Filipino service worker from Agusan del Sur.

The DFA assured the families of the victims that necessary assistance would be extended to them, including the repatriation of the remains of the two OFWs. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
