'Agaton' leaves Philippine Area of Responsibility

MANILA, Philippines — After dumping continuous rains over the Visayas and Palawan region since New Year's Day, Tropical Storm "Agaton" left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday afternoon.

In its 1:00 p.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said that Agaton was 40 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, outside PAR.

The Pagasa said that moderate to heavy rains will persist over the Bicol region and the provinces of Rizal, Aurora and Quezon due to the tail end of a cold front over those areas.

Pagasa said residents of those areas must prepare for possible flooding and landslides. The public is also asked to coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

The state weather bureau also stressed that sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern and Southern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, eastern and western seaboards of Visayas, and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the surge of Northeast Monsoon.

Agaton, the first tropical cyclone in 2018, entered PAR on the night of January 1.

The tropical storm dumped continuous rains in Cebu and Metro Cebu, triggering a landslide that killed two.
