MANILA, Philippines — The country may be hit by one or two tropical cyclones this month, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned yesterday.

Cyclones that enter the country in October usually cross Southern Luzon or Eastern Visayas, according to PAGASA assistant weather services chief Rene Paciente.

PAGASA weather forecaster Robb Gile added that October cyclones normally hit the landmass of Northern Luzon or Bicol region or “recurve” toward Southern Japan.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over Palawan was expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday.

As of 10 a.m. yesterday, it was spotted at 510 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.

Gile said PAGASA was not expecting the development of a new low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.

He added that the whole country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rain showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoon or evening in the next three days.

In Metro Manila, the temperature will range from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius until Wednesday.

PAGASA also expects the transition of wind – from southwest warm and humid to northeast cold – by the second half of the month.

The northeast monsoon – locally known as amihan – brings cold air in the country from November to February.
