Sombero surrenders P2M from alleged Jack Lam bribe

MANILA, Philippines — Former police Chief Superintendent Wally Sombero returned the P2 million, which is part of the alleged P50 million bribe money from Chinese casino mogul Jack Lam to the Ombudsman.
Sombero also filed before the Ombudsman a supplemental complaint affidavit to his case against Immigration Deputy Commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles. His lawyer Ted Contacto said this "will complete the jigsaw puzzle."
Contacto added that there are text messages of the exchanges between his client and the two Immigration officials.
"These are electronic evidence which are admissible in court," Contacto said, adding that they are now in the process of having the mobile numbers submitted.
Sombero filed charges on Saturday before the Ombudsman against Argosino and Robles for violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Sombero's lawyer clarified that the supplemental affidavit is supposed to be part of the statement but was forgotten.
According to Contacto, his client was already abroad but decided to come back and seek protective custody from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
"He could have stayed abroad and not risk his life. He came back and asked for a protective custody of the NBI," he said.
He said Sombero also returned because he supports the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte to get rid of corrupt officials.
Sombero came back to clear the name Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, Contacto said.
He added that their camp would be releasing a document on Friday containing information, including the P18 million received by Immigration intelligence division chief Charles Calima.
Contacto believes that Calima will also have a press statement on Friday to clear his name.
