MANILA, Philippines – The Ortega clan of La Union expressed its support for the candidacy of Liberal Party’s (LP) standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and his running mate, Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo.

Clan patriarch Rep. Victor Ortega announced the endorsement during the 18th cityhood anniversary of San Fernando City last Monday where Roxas was a keynote speaker and a guest of honor.

“The late President Roxas was a person who had never been tainted by any wrongdoing in government. The same goes to Mar, who, in his stints as head of various government agencies, has had a clean slate,” Ortega said.

“Iboboto sya ng mga mamamayan ng La Union sapagkat si Mar ay isang opisyales na marangal, matalino, maginoo, malinis, masipag at mahusay,” the solon added.

The solon said that La Union has always been an LP stronghold since the political party was launched in the town of Bauang. He added that it was founded by Mar’s grandfather and namesake Manuel Roxas with Elpidio Quirino and Francisco Ortega, among others in 1945.

During the endorsement, local government officials from the municipalities of Pugo, Bacnotan, San Juan, Balaoan, Santol, Luna, San Gabriel, Sudipa, Bangar and San Fernando City were present to show support to the LP bets.

Roxas ranked fourth in the latest Pulse Asia survey, tailgaiting candidates Sen. Grace Poe, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Jejomar Binay.
