New Year baby in serious condition at Fabella
MANILA, Philippines – One of the babies born at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila during the New Year revelry is in critical condition, a hospital staff said yesterday.
Shidamae Ortiguisa, 19, of Taguig City, gave birth to a baby boy named Dhame Mark after the clock struck 12. But the baby had to be taken to the neonatal intensive care unit and placed in an incubator due to difficulty in breathing.
Nurses said the baby was born premature.
A nurse, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The STAR the baby has a 50-50 chance of surviving.
Ortiguisa was admitted to the hospital at around 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, a baby girl was born to Wilson and his wife Maryann Mancilla, 27, of Kawit, Cavite also at the said hospital at 12:01 a.m.
The newborn was named Kashmir and weighed 6.9 pounds. She is the third baby of the Mancillas couple.
Her parents said they did not expect Kashmir to be born on New Year’s Day. The baby was due to be born on Jan. 9.
Another baby boy, Jay-Jay, was born to his mother Jenalyn Andeo, 20, a resident of Quezon City, at past 1 a.m.
Except for baby Dhame Mark, the New Year babies were healthy and would be discharged today.
Reports said by 5 a.m. yesterday, New Year’s Day, 10 babies had been born at the hospital.
