Filing of COC for barangay, SK polls extended

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has decided to extend the period for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the Oct. 29 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said those seeking to run in the coming polls may file their COCs from Oct. 11 to 17. The original schedule is from Oct. 15 to 17.

Jimenez said they opted to extend the schedule in anticipation of the huge number of candidates seeking to run in the elections.

“We expect that there will be a lot of people filing their certificates of candidacy so we decided to extend (the deadline),” he added.

Under Resolution 9740, the COCs “shall be filed by the candidate personally or by his duly authorized representatives, whose authority shall be in writing, under oath and attached thereto.”
