PPRCV volunteers urged to pass on good values

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has called on volunteers of the church-based election watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) to pass on to the next generation of Filipinos the dignity of a God-fearing nation.

Tagle was the main celebrant in the thanksgiving mass of the PPCRV held at the Arzobispado Chapel of the Archdiocese of Manila last Friday.

In his homily, Tagle reminded the PPCRV officials and volunteers that what they do during election season helps shape the future of the country.

“A better future is what today’s PPCRV volunteers would leave behind,” he said.

Tagle said the important things in life “are not only those that can be measured but what can be handed down to the next generation: the dignity of being a part of a country that is deeply rooted in a covenant with God.”

He said that this covenant between God and his people, which is passed on to future generations, “strengthens the family and the social and national fabric.”

Tagle expressed hope that the PPCRV and other lay groups with the same initiatives would be “fired up” by the vision of faith.

For her part, PPCRV chair Henrietta de Villa said that while they carried the CHAMP (clean, honest, accurate, meaningful and peaceful) campaign during the May 13 midterm polls, the ultimate champ for them is Jesus Christ.

“So the message of Cardinal Tagle as to what we would pass on to the coming generation – only one, only Christ, always Christ,” said De Villa, who was former Philippine ambassador to the Vatican.
