LDP set to tackle party stand on Cha-cha

-
More than 300 members and delegates of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) will tackle the party position on the ongoing Charter change (Cha-cha) debate as it convenes its national convention on May 24 at the Manila Hotel.

Sen. Edgardo Angara, current party chairman, said the LDP seeks to reclaim its role as one of the political parties that have played a significant role in shaping the Philippine political landscape, particularly in the last 25 years.

The LDP members composed of lawmakers, governors, mayors and other local officials will discuss the merits of arguments for and against Cha-cha, reaffirm the party stand on the rule of law, and commend the Supreme Court for upholding it.

Angara said the party members also seek to call on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to resolve the issues on pending electoral cases; calls for subsidies on medicines, cooking oil and fuel for the poor; and reaffirming the authority of the party chairman to organize alliances with other political parties.

The LDP is also offering an alternative platform to those disenchanted with the current crop of national leaders.

Established in 1978 and revitalized by Angara, the theme of this year’s convention is "New Vision, New Hope: Building the Next Generation of Leaders." — Christina Mendez
