Non-military men save works of art in ‘Monuments Men’
MANILA, Philippines - Set during the World War II era, the film "Monuments Men" shows how a group of men tried to save the people’s identity.
Lt. Frank Stokes (George Clooney) gathers seven men, which is lead by Lt. James Granger (Matt Damon), to find and save the artworks stolen by the Nazis lead by Adolf Hitler.
The group composed of museum directors, curators, and art historians namely Richard, Walter, Jean-Claude, Preston, Donald with Frank and James, visited mines and other places possible to find the missing artworks.
In the trailer, the Nazis were seen burning these artworks that were taken from different countries like Amsterdam and Paris.
These works of art, according to the voice over in the trailer serves as the people’s existence.
“You can wipe out the entire generation, you can burn their house on the ground and somehow they’ll still find a way back. But if you destroy their history, you destroy their achievements it is as if they never existed.â€
Based on a real-life story, “Monuments Men†is drama-comedy film directed by George Clooney. It will hit cinemas on Feb. 12, 2014.
