MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has transferred 500 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Panabo, Davao del Norte.

BuCor chief Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. said the PDLs, who arrived at the regional prison facility yesterday afternoon, would be housed in two newly constructed buildings at the DPPF.

Catapang said each building could accommodate up to 2,400 PDLs.

“Our target is to transfer about 15,500 PDLs this year to various operating prisons and penal farms as part of the BuCor’s decongestion program,” Catapang said.

“So far we have transferred 4,600. There are a few more to be transferred, but hopefully we will hit the target by the end of the year,” he added.
