MANILA, Philippines —  Zanjoe Marudo, who plays the male lead character in ABS-CBN's new series "The Broken Marriage Vow," shared what hit him the hardest about playing the role of an abusive cheat.

Marudo is David Ilustre in the Kapamilya adaptation of the British show "Doctor Foster" with hit Korean version "The World of the Married." He plays with fire as he cheats on his wife, Jodi Sta. Maria's Dr. Jill Ilustre, with Sue Ramirez's Lexy Lucero.

The actor cannot deny the fact that playing the chaotic character has had an impact on him.

"Siguro 'yung pinaka malaking impact na naramdaman ko bilang si David ay 'yung naging epekto niya sa anak niya, kay Gio," Zanjoe shared in the recent virtual press con of the show.

Gio Ilustre is played by young actor Zaijian Jaranilla.

"'Di naisip ni David sa umpisa ang epekto ng actions niya. Lahat akala niya kaya niya ayusin, akala niya lahat ng gusto niya magagawa niya, lahat makokontrol niya. Pero 'yung trauma sa bata, andyan na. Mag-iiba ang direksyon sa buhay ng bata, mga pangarap and goals ng anak niya, mag-iiba. At 'yun 'yung pinaka nakakatakot talaga na mangyari," the actor added.

"Kasi lumalaki ang bata na may trauma, mag-iiba talaga ang buhay ng anak. Kaya 'yun ang dapat isipin ng maga lalaki bago sila magloko sa mga asawa nila, ano ang magiging epekto noon sa anak nila," Zanjoe said.

The actor also revealed that playing the role of an abusive husband has taken a toll on him, as he cannot believe someone can do something as cruel in real life. He described taping the scene of physically hitting his on-screen wife as "traumatizing."

“We shot the scene at night. The morning after, I woke up feeling as if I was still in that scene. Jodi told me it was like that for her, too. I was still trembling. It was actually kind of traumatic,” Marudo narrated.

"The Broken Marriage Vow" can be watched on the Kapamilya Channel, TV5, A2Z, and on Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, and TFC.
