1st RWCAPS awardees bared

MANILA, Philippines — Famous personalities and celebrities in the country who have rendered outstanding public service in their particular fields will be honored at the first Rotary Wheel Celebrity Awards for Public Service (RWCAPS) tomorrow, April 26, 6 p.m. at the Marble Hall of the Ayuntamiento Bldg., Bureau of Treasury, Intramuros, Manila.

It is a “signature project” by the Rotary Club of Manila Fort Santiago (RCMFS), in coordination with the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. (AAFI), the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) and Soroptimist International Las Piñas Central to raise funds for their socio-civic projects, particularly in extending help towards the mangyans of Sablayan, Mindoro, which kicks off next month.

The awardees are Philippine STAR president and CEO Miguel Belmonte, Boy Abunda, Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, Shirley Halili-Cruz, Dingdong Dantes, the late Rico J. Puno, RS Francisco, Gina Lopez, Artemio Lachica, Rachel Alejandro, Christine Jacob-Sandejas,  Philippine Stagers Foundation (PSF) founder and director Vince Tañada, QC Mayor Herbert Bautista, QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, former Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado, QC Rep. Alfred Vargas, former PSC chairman Harry Angping, Dr. James Dy, Dr. Jim Sanchez of Hospital on Wheels, Dante Arevalo Ang, Dr. Emilio Yap III, Joel Cruz, Eugene Torre, James Deakin, General Teroy Taguinod of MMDA, Fr. Joey Faller, PAGCOR chairman Andrea Domingo, PAO chief Persida Rueda Acosta, PETA’s Cecile Guidote Alvarez, Isabela Gov. Faustino Bojie Dy III, Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez III, Napoleon Marilag of Dugong Alay Dugtong Buhay and Dr. Reynaldo Vea.

Arch. Aristeo Garcia, project manager and former president of Rotary Club Intramuros, said, “(RWCAPS) is a project that was conceptualized three (or) four years ago with Gintong Palad (Public Service Awards) when I was still the president of Rotary Club of Intramuros.”

 “We, together with the Rotary Club of Manila Fort Santiago, promised to continue this project which we now call the Rotary Wheel Celebrity Awards for Public Service,” he added.

Direk Vince, who will direct the star-studded event, feels honored to be recognized by the Rotary, which is an addition to his Best Director trophies from  Aliw Awards where he was hailed as a Hall of Famer.

Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. president Alice Reyes said, “Expect performances from Aliw awardees Gerphil Flores, Merjohn Lagaya, Jade Riccio, David Ezra, Reuben Laurente, Ronnie Diao and Halili Cruz Dancers. RJ Ledesma and Jennifer Lee will host the show which will be attended by Sen. Cynthia Villar as the guest speaker.”

Meanwhile, Angel Locsin, Daniel Razon and Wilson Tieng will receive the Emy Abuan Memorial Awards.
