Denise Laurel apologizes to Sol Mercado after breakup reveal
MANILA, Philippines – Actress Denise Laurel on Thursday evening took to Instagram to apologize to ex-fiancé, basketball player, Sol Mercado, after she revealed their breakup.
A day after Sol earned his first championship at the Philippine Basketball Association, Denise confessed over Instagram that she and Sol are no longer engaged and are now just friends.
Denise posted the big reveal after fans tagged her in congratulatory posts for Sol. However, she asked not to be associated to Sol, who is part of the winning Barangay Ginebra team.
The Kapamilya actess said she is happy for Sol and said they tried to fix their relationship but called off their engagement. Her posts earned speculations that the basketball star cheated on her, which she quickly dismissed.
Denise then apologized to Sol and his family for causing inconvenience, citing that the basketball player deserved the championship. She described herself selfish for posting about the breakup on Instagram, and deleted her previous posts.
"I apologize I didn't think this through on posting I just wanted to not hear about him first at this time.. people are bothering Sol now and he really didn't do anything at all," Denise clarified in a post tagging Sol.
“Please everyone Sol is wonderful, a real good person and that was selfish in my part to not think and post..very selfish of me, my timing is horrible," she added. The actress also earlier called for prayers and support in this tough time.
Despite their split, Denise maintained she has been friends with Sol. She was also seen attending the finals games of Barangay Ginebra against Meralco Bolts.
Denise and Sol were supposed to be married in 2017.
