Alden Richards stresses doing good without expecting anything in return

MANILA, Philippines — Alden Richards underscored the importance of doing good without expecting anything in return as he honored 20 unsung Filipino heroes at the Hero For All 2026 ceremony on Sunday, October 25.
The event recognized ordinary Filipinos who have demonstrated courage, compassion and a commitment to helping their communities.
Through his AR Foundation, Alden helped select the 20 awardees from different parts of the country and walks of life.
In his speech, the actor reflected on the values that united the honorees, emphasizing the importance of kindness and remaining committed to doing good despite life's challenges.
“I really believe that if there's one thing we have to be consistent about in doing in this lifetime, na kahit ano pang dumating sa buhay natin, it's doing good,” he said.
Alden also encouraged people to remain positive and contribute to the changes they want to see in society, even when circumstances make it difficult.
“Being kind, being the change that we want to see in society,” he said.
“Sometimes we have to negate the effect of society, especially during the times na hindi na 'to nakakabuti para sa atin,” he added.
The actor praised the 20 honorees for their selflessness, noting that their willingness to put others first sometimes comes at the expense of their own needs.
“But the selflessness I'm talking about with the heroes roster that we have is selflessness to the point of nakakalimutan nila 'yung sarili nila,” he said.
Alden said he also strives to live by the same principle, adding that being a good person is something he takes pride in.
“I really do believe that if there's one thing I'm proud of, sabihin niyo nang mayabang ako, pero alam ko, at the end of the day, I am a good person. No one can take that away,” he said.
He encouraged the awardees to take pride in their own goodness and continue helping others without expecting anything in return.
“I'm not saying na kailangan kong gumawa ng mabuti kasi I need to expect something in return. No. Do good without expectations of it returning to you kasi one way or another, it will find its way back to you,” he said.
Alden added that doing good is a choice everyone can make freely.
“Ang maganda kasi sa aspeto ng pagiging mabuti po ay libre. Libre siya, e,” he said, emphasizing that kindness remains within everyone's reach.
He ended his speech by urging the honorees and the audience to protect their compassion and remain mindful of the people around them.
“Be good so the world could be a little good at the end of the day,” he said.
“And if there's one thing na hindi mananakaw sa inyo ng kahit sinuman, 'yun po 'yung kabutihan ng puso. So guard it. Guard it with your life. And always be concerned about the people around you,” he added.
Alden's speech came amid allegations made by social media personality Xian Gaza, who claimed that the actor had been loaned a condominium unit and six expensive watches. Gaza's claims circulated online and sparked discussions on social media.
However, Alden did not mention Gaza nor the allegations in the portion of his speech delivered at the Hero For All 2026. It remains unclear whether his remarks about being a good person were connected to the controversy.
Instead, his message focused on the importance of upholding one's principles, helping others without expecting anything in return and protecting the goodness in one's heart.
