Kidlat of the ’50s

REMEMBER WHEN? - Danny Dolor - The Philippine Star

In 1952, a magazine with the unusual logo, KIDLAT, came off the press. It was meant to focus on action and adventure stories... plus the latest on movie, radio, music and cooking.

Three early covers of KIDLAT featured movies: Boys’ Town, Sandino and Rodrigo de Villa. All three titles were serialized in other magazines.

Bebong Osorio starred in Boys’ Town, about problem boys and a kind priest played by Ruben Rustia.

Danilo turns into a wolf at night in Sandino, with Ester Buenaobra as love interest.

Mario Montenegro is the dashing prince warrior in Rodrigo de Villa, opposite Delia Razon as the lovely princess.

KIDLAT, despite its catchy name, was shortlived, apparently unable to sustain enough action and adventure stories. — RKC
