Paul, Jade judges in Nuvali’s NUCinema

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Nuvali launches NUCinema, the Nuvali short film competition. NUVALI, in association with the Asia Pacific Film Institute, aims to highlight NUVALI’s philosophy of sustainability and turn the spotlight to its attractions and developments through films entirely shot around the vast and bustling residential and commercial community situated in Sta. Rosa, Calamba and Cabuyao.

Nature and celluloid come together in the first-ever NUCinema whose theme revolves around “Nature’s power and wonder, through the eye of man.”

The NUCinema will be graced by award-winning filmmakers, who will choose the winning entries.

Paul Soriano will join the panel in selecting the Best Short Film submitted by young and amateur filmmaking aspirants. Paul, a top commercial director, won the Best Director award for Thelma in 2011 at the Film Academy of the Philippines and the Golden Screen Awards. He was also hailed as the 2011 Director of the Year by the Star Awards for Movies. Paul produced his first film, Transit, a story about an OFW family in the Middle East. It was his entry at the recent 2013 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

With Paul is Jade Castro, who bagged the Special Jury Prize at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and the Gawad Urian Award for Best Screenplay Award for Endo in 2007. In 2012, Jade helmed Remington and the Curse of Zombadings which eventually took home the Best Asian Movie Award at the Neuchatel International Fantasy Film Festival. He also directed Juana Change The Movie.

Top 5 films will be selected from the shortlist of 15. Each of the Top 5 winning entries will be given a one-year scholarship grant from the Asia Pacific Film Institute. Deadline for submission of short films is on or before Oct. 20. The awards night is on Oct. 26.
