Art 2 Art goes to Davao

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Art 2 Art continues its summer regional series with the airing of its Davao episodes this month.

Hosted by prima ballerina Lisa Macuja, Art 2 Art is aired nationwide every Sunday, 3:30 to 4 p.m. on DZRH, and can also be viewed simultaneously on cable television via the RHTV channel on Cablelink and Cignal and on the Internet through http://dzrh.prepys.com.

“We want to seek out Filipino artists wherever they may be. Our first-ever summer specials series has given us the opportunity to meet artists and art advocates in various parts of the country and bring them to listeners and audiences nationwide,” says Macuja.

Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Art 2 Art presents the following episodes which were recorded at the Marco Polo Davao:

Tomorrow, April 3, dancer, choreographer, director and dance educator Agnes Locsin sits down with good friend and colleague Macuja for a lively catch-up session and interview. The choreographer of such renowned neo-ethnic ballet masterpieces such as Encantada, Babaylan and Igorot now manages the Locsin Dance Workshop which was started by her mother Carmen Dakudao Locsin in 1947. Locsin continues to choreograph and bared her opus Sayaw Sabel — based on National Artist Bencab’s iconic subject — in a national tour last year.

On April 10, poet, writer and painter Tita Lacambra-Ayala displays wit, humor and candor as she shares her continuing adventures in literature and the visual arts. At 80, she shows no signs of slowing down as she continues to immerse herself in the creative field. She gave the Art 2 Art team a peek at her current preoccupation — painting on dried pieces of palm tree trunks. A founding member of the Davao Writers’ Guild ang the Mindanao Entho-Culture Foundation, Inc., she also gamely read on air some of her own poems.

April 17 sees sculptor, painter and photographer Kublai Ponce Millan sharing the creative process behind his most notable works. These include his signature huge sculptures of kids at the People’s Park in Davao City, his so-called “playground in the sky” near Mt. Apo and his Nativity Scene made up of Filipino figures that was displayed at the St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City last Christmas. Kublai welcomed the Art 2 Art team in his studio at the Ponce Suites which also serves as a showcase of his works.

On April 24, Art 2 Art caps its anniversary month with a National Artist tribute, a regular feature of the program since it began airing in 2007.
