P-Noy, Lea at UP Law homecoming

MANILA, Philippines - The 2010 U.P. Law Grand Alumni Homecoming to be hosted by the UP Law Silver Jubilarian Class of 1985 tomorrow, Nov. 19, 6 p.m. at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel is all set.

Dot Gancayco, over-all chairperson of the UP Law Homecoming this year, announced that guest-of-honor and speaker is President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III while world-class entertainment will be provided by Lea Salonga, Jed Madela and the U.P. Pep Squad. Lawyer Gancayco added that for the ticket price of only P2,000, a guest will enjoy sumptuous dinner, a chance to win raffle prizes including Hawaiian Airlines’ roundtrip tickets for two.

UP Law Class of 1985 boasts of Presidential Legal Counsel Eduardo de Mesa, Solicitor-General Jose Anselmo Cadiz, Deputy Executive Secretary Teofilo Pilando, Department of Education Undersecretary Albert Muyot, Assistant Solicitors-General Renan Ramos, Ana Solomon and Vida San Vicente, House of Representatives’ Secretary-General Marilyn Barua-Yap, House of Representatives’ Deputy Secretary-General Arlene Dada-Arnaldo, former Consul-General to Dubai Generoso D.G. Calonge, former Commission on Human Rights executive director Jacqueline Mejia, Judge Princess Bustos, Judge Ed Diaz de Rivera, Judge Edgar Santos, former Press Secretary Mike Toledo, former Representatives Jing Paras, Ome Candazo, and Ruy Lopez, former COMELEC Commissioner Mehol Sadain, former National Telecommunications Commission chairman Ronald Olivar “Pope” Solis; former MWSS administrator Diosdado “Jojo” Allado, and former Bureau of Immigration commissioner Jun Subido, among the many distinguished members of its class. Members of Class 1985 who are coming home for the grand reunion from different parts of the world are Maricar Madrid-Crost, Aurora Vega-Buzon, Jean Tinsay-Limtengco, Georgia Ventanilla, Daniel Gorgonia, Edgar Recto, Neomi Escarcha-Handloegten, Daisy Mandap and Samuel Santiago.

U.P. president Emerlinda Roman will deliver an inspirational speech, U.P. College of Law dean Marvic M.V.F. Leonen will deliver a message from the dean, while U.P. Law Class ‘85 president J Conrado Castro will do the welcome remarks. The original members of the U.P. Law Charivari (the only glee club based in a college of law in the country) will be reunited under the baton of its original conductor, lawyer Fortune Balasbas. There will also be strings galore during cocktails and dinner-time and the widely-clamored performances from Apolinario Makalintal of the Golden Jubilarian Class and representatives of U.P. Law Class ‘85 — the batch that won the championship for four straight years at the U.P. Law Festival, a yearly cultural and sports competition among U.P. College of Law students.
