USC Warriors eye win no.5
CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors gun for their fifth win as they face the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 26 basketball tournament today (Monday, September 28) at the Cebu Coliseum.
Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m.
The Warriors sport a 4-1 record, their best ever start in the league sparked by an 81-68 upset of the four-time defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers in their season-opening assignment last August 30.
USC tasted its first and only loss at the hands of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 81-63, but bounced back with three straight victories over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 77-63; University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM), 74-53; and University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons, 54-46.
The Warriors of coach Paul Joven hope to extend their longest winning run as they take on the Wildcats, who carry a 3-2 slate.
In the juniors division, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguar Cubs will try to extend their perfect start to 4-0 as they tackle the USPF Baby Panthers, who are still winless in two games, in the 6:15 opener.
