All set for Calambua motocross

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - All roads lead to Calambua in San Remigio town north of Cebu this Sunday for the fifth leg of the 2014 MS Motosuit Motocross Series billed as the Calambua Motocross Challenge.

What makes the event more special is that Yamaha Motor Philippines Incorported will be launching two of its top-grade motorbikes - the XTZ 125 and Serow 250 - during the race. Both are dual sports bikes that boast great rides on city roads and on rough terrain.

Yamaha will be lending 12 units of these motorbikes for the riders in the off-road world category, which is expected to be the main attraction of the charity motocross that is also supported by CST Motorcycle Tire, F & FO Motor Parts, RMO Motor Parts,  JCO Motor Parts, New MS Apartelle,Prospeed, Motomaze, Ljun Motorparts, N Style Motor Parts, Speed-up Motor Parts, Diosdado Navarez, and Lauron Refrigeration and Airconditioning.

"I'm very happy and honored that of all the places, Yamaha chooses to launch their new motorbikes in Calambua," said MS Motosuit top honco Lou Ornopia in a press conference yesterday at the Tsay Cheng room of Cebu Grand Convention Center. "Modesty aside, that is perhaps because of our track record of having the best and well-organized motocross race in Cebu for nearly two decades now."

Over a hundred riders from all over the country are set to take part in the one-day tilt that will surely be another exciting treat for all the followers of this extreme sport that is now gaining ground even as far as the pristine province of Tawi-Tawi in Mindanao.

"It's going to be a highly entertaining motocross show. For one, I made it sure that the race course will not only be patterned after that of the international standard, but also conducive for the competitors and spectators as well. The landscape of the racetrack is something that everyone must see. It's truly breath-taking," assured Ornopia, who is highly regarded at the 'Godfather of Cebu motocross."

Among the top daredevils to watch out for is Jonjon Adlawan, the front-runner in the race for the "Rider of the Year' award, Jubenile Abellar, and Dondon Yuson in the pro open category.

Others set to showcase their gravity-defying moves and heart-pumping aerial stunts are the likes of Scot Remy of Dumaguete, Windsor Famorca of Guimaras, Cebu's crowd-darling John Flores, Cyril Tariman, JC Obligado, Dongkey Sanchez, and a slew of young but promising riders led by the ever daring BJ Pepito, Charisse Lauron, and Jeanette Connock Olanda, who at five years old is the youngest female racer in the competitive arena.

A bunch of riders from Sel-J Racing Team of Manila and other areas in the Vis-Min region will also be coming over to challenge Cebu's homegrown talents.

Aside from the world off-road and the pro open, the other categories to be contested are the mini 60cc and 85cc, beginners, local enduro, open enduro, executive A, B and C, intermediate, and expert.

There will be a special segment during the race proper, which features Yamaha's off-road motorcycles with dual purpose, a Yamaha race clinic for kids and a one-make race featuring the XTZ 125.

Meanwhile, Yamaha will be in Calambua National High School for the official turn over ceremonies of the school’s classroom that was provided with brand new doors, windows, painting and the finishing of a classroom. Another part of the activity will be the giving of educational supplies to students.— EBV (FREEMAN)
