2nd SCTI hoop tourney blasts off on Saturday

CEBU, Philippines - The second edition of the Shalom Cabling Technology, Inc. Invitational Cup basketball tournament will fire off this Saturday at the Cogon Pardo Gym.

Four teams will slug it out for the championship namely Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras Team B, Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, Day-as selection and ASUKE Motors.

In the opening match, the ASUKE Motors, bannered by the rising hardcourt superstar Mark Jayven Tallo, will take on Day-as, which will be banned by former varsity cagers.

The 17-year-old Tallo is presently associated with the La Salle Green Lancers but is due to play in the next UAAP season yet. The former Jr. NBA and CESAFI Most Valuable Player awardee recently played in the Fr. Martin Cup in Manila where he averaged 15 points per game.

With ASUKE Motors, Tallo will be reunited with his former teammates with the CIT Wildkittens, a team he steered to the CESAFI juniors championship two years ago.

In the second game of a double-header, SWU Team will take on the CEC Dragons.

Supported by Cogon Pardo Brgy. Capt. Eugenio Gabuya, Jr., the competition follows a double round robin format, with the top two teams automatically fighting it out for the championship.

Special awards will be given away to the league MVP and Mythical Five selection. - THE FREEMAN
