Gillette, Batch '89 run over foes in Atan Guardo Barkadahan Cup

-

CEBU, Philippines - Gillette ’85 met little resistance in whacking Sustagen ’83, 103-88, while Batch ’89 needed an extra five-minute period before fending off Arthro ’88, 87-83 in the 2009 University of San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (USCBHABA) Atan Guardo Barkadahan Cup Second Conference at the USC-North Campus gym.

Gillette frolicked along the way after it jumped off to a sizzling 28-14 start. Gillette sustained its momentum to pad its lead to 21 points, 57-36, and then parlayed it to an imposing 32-point bulge heading into the final 10-minute zone of the contest.

While Gillette easily blew off Sustagen, Batch ’89 struggled hard before getting rid of the exuberant Arthro in overtime.

The two protagonists locked themselves up in a closely-knit battle with neither team leading by more than six points.

Arthro closed the halftime with a 39-33 edge, but Batch ’89 charged back with savvy to forge a 75-all impasse at the end of the regulation period.

In the extension, Batch ’89 poured all its energy left to pin down the fagged out Arthro.
