First Philippine Olympic Festival: Cebuanos cart away 11 gold medals

Cebuanos so far collected a total of 11 gold medals in three different events in the on-going Philippine Olympic Festival held in different venues all over the Philippines.

The differently-abled swimmers, lead by playing coach Rolando Alvarez, grabbed the spotlight of the campaign of the Cebuanos as they won nine gold medals at the Trace Aquatic Center in Los Baños, Laguna.

The track and field team, on the other hand, picked up two gold medals to seal their bid in the 2006 National Open Track and Field Championships at the Nueva Ecija Sports Complex in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

The gymnastics team, for its part, won a lone bronze medal in the National Open Championships held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

The Cebuano boxers, but carrying the colors of Tagbilaran City, already clinched a bronze medal as some of them fight for gold in their respective weight divisions yesterday in the National Youth and Women's Amateur Boxing Olympic Festival at the Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
