Chuwatana vows to pound Gorres with heavy punches

Waengpetch Chuwatana forewarned he will bombard ALA ring prodigy Z "The Dream" Gorres with power punches, even as the Thai hitman expressed confidence of a victory in their 12-round showdown for the vacant OPBF super flyweight title this Saturday at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
"I'm very confident I will win this fight," said Chuwatana through an interpreter during their pre-fight news conference yesterday at the Baseline Restaurant. "It's going to be a good fight. Gorres is a very good boxer, but I will try my best to win."
Although Chuwatana gamely admitted it's tough to triumph by knockout, the Thai visitor remains in high spirits claiming that he already knows how to deal with the flashy Gorres when they slug it out in the main event of the star-studded "A Dream Come True" boxing show.
"It's difficult to win by knockout. The only thing I can beat Gorres is through body punches. I will throw more power punches to make Gorres weak and eventually beat him," said Chuwatana.
In the midst of Chuwatan's flaming remarks, Gorres stayed cool and composed.
"I'm very confident because of my training. But l will not take him (Chuwatana) lightly because I know he also trained hard for this fight," said the 23-year-old Gorres, arguably one of the country's hottest boxers today.
"I won't predict if I'm going to knock him out, but if opportunity presents itself, I will go for it for the sake of my fans," added Gorres, who is unbeaten in 11 fights since absorbing his first and only defeat so far by nine-round KO to Edgar Rodrigo on June 1, 2003 at the Makati City Coliseum.
ALA Boxing Gym chief trainer Edito "ALA" Villamor assured Cebuano ring buffs to witness a different and much improved Gorres.
"I believe he will deliver a better showing this Saturday than his previous fight in the US," said Villamor on referring to Gorres' February 4 bout at the Orleans Hotel Casino in Las Vegas where his ward brutally punished Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado all throughout the 10-round action.
In the supporting main event of this blockbuster spectacle bankrolled by SGG Sports Promotions of international promoter Sammy Gello-ani, reigning WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Czar Amonsot and rising ALA star AJ Banal will take on Thai twins in Decho and Dechapol Bankluaygym, respectively.
As an added feature, three other promising ALA Boys in Rocky Fuentes, Robert Allanic, and Rey Caitom will show their stuff against separate foes.
The rock-solid Fuentes will clash with Jojo Bardon of Rex "Wakee" Salud Stable for the Philippine flyweight championship, Allanic battles Robert Rubillar of Manila's Elorde Stable, and Caitom collides with Cagayan de Oro City's Joy Adrian.
In the preliminaries, AEV Stable mainstays Frank Albia, Nic Banal, and Niñolito Jalnaiz go up against Joe Galamiton, Rolly Baclayo, and Noel Acasio, all of Cagayan de Oro.
