As he makes round in prep for 2025 election: Brgy execs ‘warn’ Yogi against campaigning

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Former Bureau of Customs Commissioner Yogi Felimon Ruiz, who has already expressed his intention to run for Cebu City mayor in the 2025 elections, disclosed that some barangay captains have cautioned him against having political sorties in their respective barangays.

This developed as some people, according to Ruiz, told him he has been leading in some surveys of which source he did not mention.

In a statement, Ruiz said he is more motivated now to continue running for mayor in the 2025 midterm elections after people in some mountain barangays that he visited warmly welcomed him.

At the same time, he said he expects character assassination, defamation, dirty politics, and the dragging of his name through negative campaign slander as the political season draws near.

He said he has been paying a visit to a lot of barangays in Cebu City for consultation, as well as to ascertain their welfare and safety, especially amidst ongoing operations of the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency against illegal drugs.

Ruiz had been assigned to different regions in the country when he was in active service as regional director of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

If he wins as mayor of the city, Ruiz has warned personalities who continuously involve themselves in illegal drug business to leave Cebu City.

Ruiz said he would give them 30 days from the date of his assumption in office, otherwise they would be fed to the “bugaong” fishes in SRP.

He stressed that his administrative, managerial, operational experiences as BOC Commissioner and PDEA regional director has given him more confidence in leading Cebu better than his prospective opponents in the mayorship position.

“Cebu needs a leader with a good vision, dili kay leader nga nagsige lang plano kanus-a mobakasyon,” said Ruiz.

Knowing that a mayor has an operational supervision of the PNP, PDEA, BFP, BJMP and other government agencies, he promises to support all of them to make Cebu City as the safest city in the entire country.
