Rama shrugs off “toxic” comment

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

MANILA, Philippines — “But I am sorry, I’m still the mayor.”

This was Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama’s reaction to the statement made by beleaguered Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) chairman Jose “Joey” Daluz III describing him as “toxic for Cebu.”

Daluz has called on all opposition to unite to “save Cebu from toxic Mike.”

“Mike Rama has now become toxic for Cebu. The opposition against the dancing and singing mayor of singapoorlike Melbourne features must unite to remove “toxic mike”,” Daluz said in a statement.

“I believe there are more and much better leaders in Cebu who can save Cebu from "Toxic Mike". "Save Cebu against "Toxic MIKE,” the statement reads further.

Reacting to the statement, Rama said that anyone who wishes to challenge him in the next elections can describe him anything they want to but whether they like it or not he will still be the mayor until his term ends in 2025.

“They can describe, anyone who wants to challenge me, they can describe anything, my term will still be up to 2025,” said Rama.

He said that if these opposing opinions are honorable enough they would be “smart” to comprehend what he meant. The mayor said he is looking forward to seeing the candidates who will be running for the 2025 elections.

“They all are worthy opponents…kana kung inig file sa COMELEC dawaton ba,” said Rama.

The mayor said it is no longer new to him that Rama politics has opposing views coming from other potential leaders. (CEBU NEWS)
