Pardo uses traditional public address system

CEBU, Philippines — Despite technology advancement that made modern communication system readily available, Barangay Pardo in Cebu City still opts to establish a public address system in every sitio to relay important announcements.

Barangay Captain Arcadio ”Archie” Araw-Araw III said they are now working on the necessary papers to install a sound system from the barangay hall down to each of the 23 sitios.

Araw-araw said that through the traditional public address system the residents will be informed immediately of any important announcement from the barangay hall especially during emergency situations. So far, Pardo is the first barangay to do such an information system in the city.

Aside from the “public address system,” the barangay council is also working on the installation of CCTV cameras in strategic locations for proper monitoring, especially on matters pertaining to peace and order situation.

Araw-Araw thanked Mayor Michael Rama for providing the needed funds for the installation of the communication system as well as the CCTV despite losing in Pardo in the last elections. — Sanden J. Anadia (FREEMAN)
