MCWD assures more water supply in Cebu City barangays

CEBU, Philippines —  The water supply problem in barangays Apas, Lahug, Busay, among others, are expected to be solved soon with the pipe system from Lusaran is expected to be available by September this year.

Residents in the said areas have long been relying on water rationed by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District.

The location of these barangays has caused them the problem accordingly which MCWD said will finally be addressed soon.

“September 9 ang contract nila (sa contractor) nga maka-deliver. Naa na unyay tubig ang Busay, Lahug, padulhog ubos. Wala na nay baril diha maglinya padulong sa Apas gikan Nivel (Hills),” said Engr. Stephen Yee, acting general manager of MCWD, in a meeting with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.

Aside from that, MCWD also said they are also working on three desalination plants that are expected to help solve the water supply of MCWD.

The desalination plants as reported by the city’s Public Information Office will be at the South Road Properties, Inayawan, and Mambaling.

According to MCWD, the plant at the  SRP can produce 30,000 cubic meters every day which can serve 27,000 households in Bulacao, Cogon Pardo, Kinasang-an, and Poblacion Pardo.

The same amount of water supply is also expected in Inayawan and will be able to serve barangays Basak Pardo, Basak San Nicolas, Cogon Pardo, Kinasang-an, Poblacion Pardo, Punta Princesa, and Quiot.

For the desalination plant in Mambaling, it can go up to 25,000 cubic meters every day for around 22,500 households in Duljo Fatima, Ermita, Kalubihan, Kamagayan, Mambaling, Pahina Central, Pahina San Nicolas, Parian, Pasil, San Nicolas Proper, San Roque, Santo Niño, Sawang Calero, Suba, and Tinago.

MCWD is also looking at purchasing 22 additional generator sets to reinforce the 30 generator sets currently used. — GMR (FREEMAN)
