2 wanted persons in Cebu surrender

CEBU, Philippines - Two more fugitive persons in Cebu, one of them most wanted for carnapping, have turned their selves in to authorities on Friday.

Leyte native John Arao-Arao, who has a warrant of arrest for carnapping, travelled from Leyte to Cebu to surrender to an official of Cebu City Police Office.

After learning about the arrest warrant, Arao-arao called up Superintendent Aileen Recla, chief of CCPO's Investigation and Detective Management Branch, and told her he would surrender.

This happened a day after another wanted person, alleged hitman Raymart Conahap, also surrendered to another CCPO official, Chief Inspector Michael Anthony Bastes of the City Intelligence Branch.

Conahap, 26, had a warrant of arrest for murder.

Recla said Arao-arao called her up to tell that he would surrender as soon as he gets money for his fare from Leyte to Cebu.

He managed to have money on Friday and then travelled to Cebu on the same day, arriving here at past 9 p.m.

At Pier 1 in Cebu City, the suspect was welcomed by a team of IDMB personnel led by Recla herself who assured his safety.

Police consider Arao-arao as the top most wanted person in Cebu City for carnapping.

His warrant of arrest was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 14 Judge Raphael Yrastorza in July 2015.  Yrastorza set a bail bond of P100,000 for Arao-arao's temporary liberty.

In Moalboal town, another person being wanted also for carnapping and for violence against women and children surrendered to the police.

Mark Anthony Deniega, 36, of Barangay Basdiot, walked into Moalboal Police Station and turned himself in Friday morning.

He told the police that he surrendered to them after learning that he had standing warrants of arrest.

The suspect was charged for two counts of violence against women and children and for violation of the Anti-Carnapping Act.

Judge Leopoldo Cañete of RTC Branch 60 in Barili recommended P182,000 bail for the suspect, who is now detained at the police station.  (FREEMAN)
