PRO-7 orders CCPO to identify “Basag Kotse Gang” members

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Police Regional Office-7 has directed the Theft and Robbery Section of the Cebu City Police office to identify the culprits behind the series of car burglaries last Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of staff of PRO-7, further directed the city’s TRS to study the modus operandi employed by the “Basag Kotse Gang” having detected a “chronological sequence” in the burglaries.

According to Lawas, both the former and current officer-in-charge of TRS, Chief Inspector David Señor and Inspector Rolito Supatan, respectively, suspect that the criminal group is not a newbie.

Pending the identification of the burglars, Lawas reminded car owners to be vigilant in leaving their cars at the parking areas of establishments.

He said car owners should not leave valuable things inside their parked vehicles so as not to attract the attention of burglars.

The criminal gangs will do everything to get the items inside their target vehicle if they see even the smallest opportunity to do so, said Lawas.

The PRO-7 official also urged establishment owners to invest in security by providing adequate lightings and installing closed-circuit television cameras in their respective establishments.

“Let’s invest in security like CCTV. Dako kaayo ni siya og tabang nga malikayan nato nga mabiktima,” he said, saying CCTV cameras can help deter criminals who usually strike in places where there are fewer people around.

Aside from the installation of security cameras, Lawas said somebody should constantly watch the footage to monitor the activities around the establishment.

“Naay mag-monitor ug naa’y nagtan-aw sa CCTV. Pwede mapakgang kay nakita sa CCTV aron makapadala dayon ta’g responder,” he stressed, adding that security is also a concern of the community. — (FREEMAN)
