One dead, three injured in motorcycle accident

CEBU, Philippines - One died and three were injured in a vehicular accident on the national highway of Barangay Poblacion, Alcantara at about 6:00 in the morning yesterday.

Jimboy Gabonada, 19, of Barangay Saavedra, Moalboal died at the Badian District Hospital after he suffered severe injuries in different parts of his body.

Also injured were Erwin Tarambulo, 17; Dolatre Sandoval, 16; and Linara Cabagan. All are from Barangay Saavedra and were taken to the same hospital but was later referred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Sr. Insp. Juan Casipong, Alcantara police chief, said Cabagan was driving the Honda Wave motorcycle bearing plate number 1226GF while the three others were riding in pillion.

They were heading towards Moalboal town from Barangay Palanas, Alcantara when the accident happened.

Casipong said Cabagan was traveling on high speed and upon reaching a slightly curved portion of the road along the St. Augustine Parish Church, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a concrete lamppost along the road.

The victims were reportedly thrown off the motorcycle causing injuries in different parts of their bodies but it was Cabagan who was in critical condition when they were taken to the hospital.

Casipong said they cannot determine if Cabagan was under the influence of liquor when the incident happened but he claimed that the said road where the incident happened is an accident prone area. (FREEMAN)
