2 commit suicide
CEBU, Philippines - Two persons committed suicide in different incidents in the towns of Madridejos and Alcoy on Saturday.
In Barangay Maalat, Madridejos, depression was the alleged reason why a 54-year-old man shot himself dead inside his house at about 5:00 in the morning. The fatality, Rey Labra, was found with a gunshot wound in the head and beside him was a .38 revolver loaded with two bullets and one empty shell.
PO2 Carlo Mondejar of the Madridejos Police Station said neighbors went to the victim’s house after hearing gunshot. There they found the lifeless Labra inside his room. Prior to the incident, Mondejar said Labra was sleeping with his 12-year-old grandson outside their house and at 5:00 in the morning, went to his room and killed himself.
Mondejar said that Labra’s wife has been working in Manila for a couple of years and they allegedly did not hear from her since then. Labra also reportedly suffered a disability on his right hand due to an accident a few years ago.
“Naguol tingale siya kay wala na siya’y pangita unya naa niya iyang apo,” police said.
After the incident, the kid was left in the custody of his mother, the victim’s stepdaughter, who lives in Barangay Kaongkod.
Meanwhile, about 12 hours later, 19-year-old Airee Amigo, of Barangay Atabay, Alcoy was found hanging inside their house with a nylon rope around her neck and attached to the beam of their ceiling.
Carlito Antig, her live-in partner’s uncle, found her and untied the rope then took her to the Rural Health Center where she was declared dead by Dr. Max Cang, the municipal health officer.
Amigo allegedly got mad after her live-in partner, Anthony Nefil, 20, failed to go home early that day.
PO1 Marivel Pardo of the Alcoy Police Station said that Nefil failed to go home early from assisting their livestock because he got stuck in a drinking session with his friends.
“Luoran lang gyud kuno ni siya unya hilomon, wa sila magtuo nga mao ra to ang hinungdan,” Pardo said. — (FREEMAN)
