Cabrera tags "dirtiest" Cebu City barangays

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera described Barangays Day-as and San Antonio as the “most dirty” barangays in the city.

Cabrera considered the two barangays as the “dirtiest” among the 80 barangays of Cebu City because of the constituents’ failure to cooperative in the government’s policy not to bring their garbage outside of their house until the garbage truck arrives.

Day-as barangay secretary Queen Marie Alcoy and San Antonio barangay Councilman Ferdinand Mante admitted that their barangays are the dirtiest in Cebu City.According to them, the bad habits of their respective constituents are to be blamed for their standing.

“Tinuod g’yud na Sir nga dunay mga lumolupyo namo nga molabay sa ilang basura daplin sa karsada bisan og wala pa ang garbage trucks,” Alcoy said.

Mante on the other hand said that another reason is the alleged failure of the garbage trucks from the Department of Public Services to pick up their garbage in some occasions.

“Mao na ang problema namo diri sa barangay San Antonio kay guba man gud ang among garbage truck sa barangay mao nga magsalig ra mi sa garbage truck sa DPS,” Mante said.

The people also did not comply with the requirements to segregate their garbage before bringing them out of their house as provided for under the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

“Daghan na sa mga barangay ang mitabang nga malimpyo ang atong dakbayan apan dunay ubang mga lumolupyo nga dili kaayo mo-participate,” said Cabrera, chairperson of the City Council’s Committee on Environment. The city government has been very lenient also in the implementation of the provisions of the Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

Engr. Amancio Dongcoy of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 Solid Waste Management Compliance said that the local government units should take the necessary legal actions against the violators. — (FREEMAN)
