Two men charged for anti-fencing

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were charged for violation of the Anti-Fencing Law after they were caught possessing items stolen from the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT).

Cebu City Prosecutor Mario Ley Gidayawan charged Carlito Solis, 37, a resident of Katipunan St., barangay Labangon, Cebu City and Lucrecio Remosora, 45, a resident of Tres de Abril St., barangay Labangon before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1612 or the Anti-Fencing Law.

Gidayawan recommended a bail of P40,000 each for Remosora and Solis.

The stolen PLDT wires, telephones sets and other communication items amounted to P186,599.40.

In a joint affidavit executed by SPO3 Rogelio Cañete, PO2 Reglyn Pepito and PO2 Renato Berido of the Police Station 10 in Punta Princesa, they said they received a call from a concerned citizen informing them of the presence of a green multicab bearing plate number YDY 792 loaded with stolen several telephone wires, sets of telephone and other communication items from PLDT at Katipunan Street.

Police said they then proceeded to Katipunan St. near Camomot Franza, barangay Labangon and saw the green multicab. The pick-up contained several items in different sacks and boxes.

The vehicle was about to leave but they apprehended the driver, Remorosa. They introduced themselves as policemen and were told that the items were owned by the PLDT.

Remorosa informed them that he was hired by a certain Carlito Solis as driver and to bring the communication items to Pier 4, Cebu City to ship to Ormoc City, Leyte to sell the items to Ormoc Telephone Company (Ortelco).

Police said with the cooperation of Remorosa, they went to the house of Solis and found him. During investigation Solis admitted that he bought the items from certain employees of Cable Specialists, a PLDT contractor.

Mario Ponce, an employee and representative of PLDT, appeared in Punta Princesa Police Station saying he was the one who asked for police assistance after he received a call from one of PLDT subscribers about the incident.

They recovered 368 pieces protectors, 377 pieces connecting blocks, 54 rolls of drop or parallel wires, eight telephone sets with model ES802 and 27 telephone sets with model Cosun QX28. (FREEMAN)
