UV students top Customs Broker Licensure Exam

CEBU, Philippines - Two students from the University of Visayas topped the recently concluded 2009 Customs Broker Licensure Examinations, according to results released by the Professional Regulatory Commission the other night.

Edwin Estorgio and Rommel delos Reyes ranked seventh and ninth among the 386 examinees that passed the examinations. A total of 1,124 examinees took the licensure examination last October 28 and 29, 2009 in Manila.

“We are so happy nga naa na sad mi mga topnotchers,” said Rosemarie Español, Dean of the UV Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration.

In 2007, Wilchrist Rama of UV also placed seventh in the same examination.

In an interview with The Freeman, Estorgio, 23, said his efforts in reviewing, as well as the financial hardships he experienced have finally paid off. Estorgio is a resident of Consolacion town.

“Lipay kaayo ko nga nakapasar ko,” Estorgio said, admitting that he somehow expected to ace the examination. He said he landed second in their pre-board exams conducted by their review center.

He said six of them from UV, Delos Reyes included, helped each other in Manila during the three-month review and even decided to live in the same dormitory to they could share notes and handouts.

“Nagtinabangay gyud mi diri sa Manila para makapasar gyud mi,” he said.

Other successful examinees from UV include Jerald Cavan, Algerio Lawas, Suharno Basir, Sohaila Mauna and Xy-za Pagdalian.

The new examinees will take their oath on Tuesday, December 8, at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel in Manila. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
