VECO denies selling energy-saving device

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Visayan Electric Co., Inc. issued a statement yesterday to the public clarifying that they are not selling “energy saver” devices.

VECO spokesperson Ethel Natera said they got information from some of their customers on people who are allegedly selling such devices and offering it at only P9,000 each, which they claim, is cheaper than the alleged P26,000 each that is “being sold” by VECO.

“We are thus issuing this notice that we are not selling any devices,” Natera said in a press statement furnished to The FREEMAN.

“To our valued customers, please be informed that VECO is not into such kind of a business. It is only engaged in the distribution of electricity and is not selling nor endorsing such devices. VECO has not authorized any organization, company or individual to sell devices of this nature. Any such claims are therefore utterly false,” the statement further reads.

With this, the power firm advises the public that if they are approached by such individuals, they should first call VECO’s Call Center at 230-VECO (8326) for verification of their claims.

The company further said it is continuously encouraging its customers to carry out energy saving measures in their homes or workplaces even without the use of so-called “energy saver” devices. These energy saving measures can be found in its website at www.veco.com.ph.

“VECO is even urging its customers to use Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) which consume much less energy than incandescent bulbs. Consumers can have as much as 80% power cost savings in one year by switching to CFLs and other energy-efficient lighting technologies,” it added.

With power supply in the Cebu-Negros-Panay grid at a critical level, VECO is encouraging everyone to do their share in saving energy to prevent power outages. “In addition, saving energy will help us fight global warming. Everyone, consumers and the energy industry, can share the load in making our lives more manageable and the environment cleaner and sustainable.” — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/WAB   (FREEMAN NEWS)
