DepEd execs talk through video

CEBU, Philippines - A dry run on video conferencing was carried out at the Ecotech Center in barangay Lahug yesterday wherein officials of the Department of Education showed how they have indulged in advance technology to further improve services and work efficiency.

Officer in charge Recaredo Borgonia, director of the DepEd in Central Visayas, said that the innovation will help them “economize their funds and perform efficiently.”

Borgonia said that with videoconferencing, they will be able to address the needs of each school in an instant, as well as talk about their problems and discuss these with school officials without having to visit the regional office already.

It was learned that the said video conferencing applies in all parts of the country, not only in the region.

Videoconferencing terminals are installed in different regions and those with these terminals could view an event, ask questions, and exchange information with everyone in the DepEd.

Officials will not have to make their meeting conferences away from the office with the said technology, according to Borgonia.

The said project is funded by the regional innovation fund. The network currently uses both fiber-optic cable connection and wireless technologies. It uses wireless equipment to connect to the Department of Science and Technology’s nationwide fiber-optic backbone. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV       (THE FREEMAN)
