Security guard charged for stabbing neighbor

CEBU, Philippines - For stabbing his neighbor, a security guard was charged with frustrated murder before the Regional Trial Court on Friday.

The charge was lodged against Arnold Batuto, resident of Quiot Pardo, after he allegedly tried to kill his neighbor Jeffrey Alferez on February 17.

Jeryl Alferez, brother of the victim, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, was the one who filed the case against Batuto.

In his affidavit, Jeryl said he saw the accused repeatedly stabbing his brother for still unknown reasons. SPO3 Joselito Pardillo of the Punta Princesa Police station said that right after they received a report about the incident, they proceeded to the house of Batuto in Quiot Pardo but the suspect was not there.

Batuto was later arrested in her mother’s house where he sought shelter after the incident.When asked where he placed the knife, Batuto claimed that he has not remembered where it is but he surrendered immediately after police found him in his mother’s house.

A bail of P24,000 has been recommended for the temporary liberty of Batuto. — Jasmin R. Uy/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
