Biliran governor visits Capitol, thanks Gwen for P1 million aid

CEBU, Philippines – Biliran Governor Rogelio Espina together with the members of the Biliran Provincial Board, some town mayors as well as barangay captains and the Sangguniang Kabataan chairman paid Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia a visit yesterday at the Capitol building.

Espina said that they consider Cebu as their mother province in the entire Visayas region and that they are forever grateful to Garcia who granted them a million pesos in financial assistance after the province was hit by a typhoon last year.

In a presentation, Garcia showed to the officials of Biliran some of the achievements and projects of the Province of Cebu that the Province of Biliran could replicate.

Yesterday afternoon, the visitors participated in a mini “Suroy-Suroy” in Cebu southern towns.

The island province of Biliran, which was formerly a sub-province of Leyte, is in Region 8 or the Eastern Visayas region. It is bound in the north by the Visayas Sea, south by the Carigara Bay, east by the Samar Sea, and west by the Strait of Biliran.

Biliran has eight municipalities and 132 barangays and is a lone congressional district. The seat of government is in Naval, the capital town.

Biliran is endowed with natural tourist attractions that lure both local and foreign tourists like coral reef gardens, scenic waterways, white sand beaches, and natural hot and cold water springs.

As a new province, it is strengthening its organizational development program to build up its capabilities for local governance both at the provincial and municipal levels. — Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
