Labella cancels LPG proposal

Cebu City Councilor Edgardo Labella decided to defer his intention to sponsor an ordinance that would prohibit the transport of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks through motorcycles.

Labella earlier explained that transporting a fully loaded and pressurized LPG tanks on motorcycles could be dangerous.

But after reading The FREEMAN report that carries the sentiments of those who will be affected if his proposal would be enacted into an ordinance, Labella has decided to cancel the idea.

“Mao na ang nakaayo kon ang usa ka isyu madiskuter sa media kay mahibaw-an man nato daan ang mga sentimento sa katawhan,” said Labella, who thanked The FREEMAN for bringing the issue to the public.

While Labella’s proposal to prohibit the transport of LPG through motorcycle has good intention, those who only have two-wheeled vehicles are not in favor of his idea.

“Pait kaayo na para namo nga pobre kay wala may sakyanan paingon sa among lugar. Kon dili man ipakarga sa among motor ang LPG tanks, pas-anon na lang namo,” a resident of barangay Busay said.

Even the LPG dealers also agree that transporting LPG cylinders by just strapping them onto the motorcycles is dangerous.

Some LPG distributors in the city deliver their products through motorcycles because this is more economical than the four-wheeled ones, aside from the fact that motorcycles move faster.

Labella expressed fears that once an LPG tank falls from the motorcycle, it might cause an accident if it will be hit by another vehicle. — Rene U. Borromeo/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
