Children of SSS members with disability benefits get dependent’s pension

-

The Social Security System said children who were born after a member was granted permanent total disability benefit are entitled to dependent’s pension under the Employees’ Compensation Program.

SSS president and chief executive officer Corazon de la Paz said the Employees Compensation Commission has approved the payment of the benefit to the first five children starting from the youngest and without substitution.

“The ECC board has issued a resolution, which allows the payment of dependent’s pension to the minor children starting from the youngest and without substitution,” de la Paz said.

Under the new policy, all minor children, whether legitimate or illegitimate who were born after the member’s contingency, shall be paid a pension, which is equivalent to 10 percent of the member’s pension or P200, whichever is higher. But in cases where the number of children exceeds five, the legitimate children will be preferred.

There are close to 2,000 EC disability pensioners in the SSS roster who are receiving an average pension of more than P3,700. SSS administers the EC program for private sector workers while the Government Service Insurance System administers the program for public sector workers. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV
