Display of emblem encouraged for tomorrow's Nat'l Flag Day

-
Starting yesterday all local government units were encouraged to display the Philippine flag in all public places in observance of tomorrow's National Flag Day.

A memorandum circular issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government urged that the display of the national emblem be continued until June 30, days after the commemoration of the declaration of Philippine Independence.

This is pursuant to an Executive Order in 1994, which mandated the eminent display of the national flag in all public buildings, residences and government offices.

Business establishments and offices of non-government organizations as well as operators of public utility vehicles are also encouraged to display prominently the Philippine flag.

The Philippine flag is the official banner of an independent and sovereign nation that recapitulates the Filipino's sense of nationhood.

Since 1965, May 28 had been designated National Flag Day by presidential proclamation. It commemorates the first unfurling of the Philippine flag at Alapan, Imus, Cavite in 1898 that is said to hold the most significant military achievement for such manifested the birth of a new nation. - Ferliza C.
