A man who allegedly harassed a teacher was killed when he engaged the responding policemen in a shootout in barangay Gawi, Oslob town Wednesday night.
Anselmo Paragele, 28, a resident of the place, sustained gunshot wounds in the head and abdomen and was pronounced dead at the Oslob District Hospital.
Oslob police chief SPO4 Nestor Fuentes told The FREEMAN that prior to the incident, a certain Bernabe Vequizo reported to the station that Paralege harassed his wife, Marcelina, during her class.
Paragele, Fuentes said, apparently got irked when Marcelina announced during one of the meetings for their barangay fiesta that he is one of the troublemakers in their place.
Responding policemen SPO1 Virgilio Alcasar, SPO1 Vicente Soyoc, SPO1 Joel Miñoza, and PO1 Nelson Saquibal went to the place and saw Paralege armed with a .38 homemade revolver.
When the police tried to arrest Paragele, he immediately fired at the lawmen. Miñoza then fired two warning shots but Paragele still fired at them.
When the police retaliated, Paragele was hit in the head and abdomen. He was immediately brought to the Oslob District Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. - Norvie S. Misa
