Roaring Beasts

- Jen F. Vega -

CEBU, Philippines - Kawasaki Motors Philippines takes bike fans on a wild ride with its newly-engineered leisure bikes. These are mean machines that’ll feed the big boy’s road itch. Five beasts were formally introduced to a throng of bike monsters from the different motoring clubs and dealers in the metro via a biker’s party with a nostalgic 80s theme at Vudu.

Biggies from Kawasaki flew in from Manila “to introduce the pleasure of riding with different types of bikes,” said Jin Inoue, president and chairman of the board of Kawasaki Motors (Phils.) Corporation. “These are leisure bikes for people to enjoy…and we’re going to introduce some more later this year,” he added.

KSR-110 is the lightweight mini sport bike with four-strike SOHC 111cc displacement; single cylinder, air-cool; running at 8.4 horsepower yet fuel-efficient at 55 kilometers per liter. For great performance without compromising on safety, it has 12-inch tubeless tires, front and rear disc breaks for smooth and efficient stopping performance, and just like a racing bike, the KSR 110 has Genuine Upside Down Fork telescopic front fork for ease of handling.

Ninja 250R is a racer with a maximum power of 31.8 PS at 11,000 rpm. Specs include a “2-into-1 system the contributes to the low and mid-range torque and smooth, step-free power curve slightly upswept silencer extensively tested to determine chamber size, connecting pipe length and diameter to achieve least noise and most power.” For extra caution, the makers developed a large face analog speedometer and easy-to-read analog technometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and warning lights. It also has a “290mm front petal disc and a balanced action two-piston caliper for excellent braking performance and a natural, direct feeling at the lever.”

Joining the 250R in the Ninja Supersport Bike Series is Ninja 650R. It has liquid-cooled, DOHC, eight-valve fuel injected twin cylinder for a smooth ride even at low to medium rpm range. It sports a taller fuel tank, “sharper tail cowling with a new thin LED taillight, revised rear turn signals, new license plate bulb housing, slimmer rear mud flap” and a MotoGP-inspired digital fuel gauge, speedometer, clock, odometer, trip meters and technometer.

Vulcan 900 (Special edition) is a big bike cruiser that has a fuel tank capacity of 20 liters. Its twin valley themed sculpted bodywork is sexy yet cutting-edge with sleek contours and urbane curves. The Vulcan is armed with a 903cc V-Twin SOHC engine that delivers a smooth torque at low range per hour (rph). This appeals to anyone whose fascination lean towards classic meets contemporary toys for big boys.

Ninja ZX-10R. Inoue describes this as The Beast that speeds with 1000cc engine displacement and a horsepower of 200.1 PS. “The casette type transmission facilitates convenient gear ratio changes to suit track conditions, big piston front fork wd 43 mm tubes for enhanced composure and control under hard braking, horizontal back link rear suspension for increased road holding control, and Ohlins steering damper,” he added. This powerful beast carries the Sport Kawaski Traction Control (S-KTRC) for full control which just goes to show that you are the boss; and the mass centralization feature that “puts the bike’s weight at its center,” for easy maneuver.
