The Art of Three

- Jen F. Vega -

A contemporary art exhibit is on going at one of Cebu’s venue for local visual artists. Dubbed as “The Art of Three (A3),” the exhibit is a visual convergence of three notable artists, each representing the three key cities of the three geographic regions of the Philippines (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao).

Art dela Cruz (Davao), Sio Montera (Cebu) and Aman Santos III (Manila), all finished their Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, all kept in touch after school. They were classmates, actually. Now, they have joined forces in promoting unity in the face of diversity.

The virtuosi express very contemporary collections, however, they emphasized that each one has a distinct stylistic approach. The art arena is a quest for discovering new forms and expression methods, thus each artist is making efforts in getting out of the box and eventually achieve perfection in style. Dela Cruz who hails from Davao portrays vignettes and episodes of splendor from his hometown. Davao’s famous floral wonders are depicted in every piece, not to mention the country’s national bird, the Philippine eagle, also stars in some of the obra. The Visayas is represented by Montera whose turf is on Non-figurative Abstraction – a composition base on the elements of lines and colors. Representing Manila art is Santos who brings viewers to nostalgic moments with families during beach outings – nameless crowds where faces and identities have become generic and seemingly featureless. The trio stars of this exhibition are all “formalists.”

Being pros in the field of art, they still give prominence to their continuous explorations of their own technique. Take a glimpse on the art of the country’s regions.

World-renowned furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue and Nokia's Event and Promotions Manager Jerry Paul Manus, attended the opening of the exhibition as guests of honors. The exhibit was formally launched on September 21 and will culminate on October 24, 2007 at the posh Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort Gallery. Exhibit hours are from 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 10pm on weekends. Non-resort guests are requested to call Juliet Amazona at (032) 492 1808 or 232 5411 and arrange for an exhibit viewing appointment.
